October has been jam-packed with practicing rhythm patterns, working in centers with flashcards, magnetic white boards, and manipulatives. We have been finding the rhythms in everyday words such as our names, different foods, and animals. Our unit on beat and rhythm is culminating this week with students composing their own four and eight beat rhythm patterns. Next week we will wrap up the unit with students performing their rhythm patterns for their classmates. We have been working so hard - you should be very proud of your students!
We learned about the Indigenous People of North America, and their instruments, and festivals, called powwows. We even tried a few powwow dance steps! We also learned about Diwali, a festival of light that is celebrated in India. Our PBIS team focused on being Ready for learning this month, and how being “ready” might look in different areas of our school such as in the classroom, gymnasium, library, cafeteria, and out at recess. We learned a great song about it which students sang at our first all-school meeting of the year. Ask them to sing it for you!
