November kicked off with our wonderful Veterans Day remembrance on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. The students sang their grade-level patriotic songs beautifully for our guest veterans. It was our way of saying, “Thank you for your service!”
We have begun our unit on Expressive Qualities, and we are focusing on Volume, or Dynamics, and how music played at different volume levels can make us feel different ways. For example, soft, or “piano” music can make us feel calm, sleepy, or sad, while loud, or “forte” music can make us feel happy, excited, or scared.
Grade three students and teachers went on a field trip to the Young People’s Concert presented by the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. The Americana music selections they played went along nicely with our current theme of dynamics. Our students were very respectful audience members at the concert and they represented our school proudly.
We are also preparing for our annual Holiday Concert for students in Kindergarten through Grade Three. Our concert will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the DYIMS Kenneth T. Jenks Memorial Auditorium on Monday, December 15, 2025. We ask that families bring their students to the concert at 5:45. Students will be sitting up front in the reserved rows with their classes, and families are invited to sit in the sections behind the reserved student rows. Song packets will be going home with students prior to the Thanksgiving break so they can begin practicing the songs at home.
