In the World of Physical Education

Well we are officially in the home stretch for the school year! Returning from April vacation marks the beginning of my Recess Running Track which is completely optional if the students want to participate they can! Students can choose during their recess time to either walk, jog, run, dance or even cartwheel their way around my "recess track" which is just a white spray painted loop around the backfield. For every lap they complete they can circle, color or cross off a pair of sneakers on the recording sheet. Five laps equals one mile and once the students complete five miles (that's 25 laps!!!) they can turn in their running sheet to me to collect a foot /sneaker charm for them to keep. They may tie it onto their sneakers, attach it to their backpacks or make it into jewelry to wear. Also, their name will be added to the bulletin board in the gymnasium entitled "The 5 Mile Club" If they choose to fill out another recording sheet, then they get another foot/sneaker charm and their names added to the "10 Mile Club" and so on.
In other PE news all classes are in the thick of our dancing unit right now. The dances we cover vary by grade level but the songs that are introduced include: Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance, Limbo, You Make Me Wanna Shout, Bunny Hop, YMCA, Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Whip Nae Nae, Marcarena, Mexican Hat Dance and the Cotton Eyed Joe. After a few instructional dances the students are given some freestyle dance time with classic Kidz Bop music and dance ribbons!
Look out for information about MES In Action! I will be requesting photos of your student along with their family being active outside of school to put up on the bulletin board outside the gymnasium. It's a great way to see how everyone stays active outside of school! More information will be coming! -Ms. Buron

Cape Kids Meals-Weekend Meal Program

How it Works:
  1. Schools work with families to determine participation.
  2. Shelf stable food is purchased from the Greater Boston Food Band and other retail stores.
  3. Bags are packed weekly at one of Cape Kid Meals packing centers.
  4. CKM provides a bag filled with easy to prepare meals and snacks to help last them through the weekend.
  5. Bags are delivered to the schools each week.
  6. Bags are placed discreetly into a child’s backpack by school personnel before dismissal.
  7. The entire program is confidential-only the schools know who is participating.
